Human design is a powerful tool for your spiritual and personal development. Often called the science of differentiation or the science of the aura, it teaches us how to be our true unique selves and use our energy correctly for more ease and flow in our lives (and so much more!). One of the nine centres in human design is the Solar Plexus Centre, which governs our emotional intelligence and sensitivity. Understanding whether this centre is defined or undefined, as well as the nature of the four emotional waves, can offer us so much clarity into our emotional landscape.
The Solar Plexus Centre: An Overview
The Solar Plexus Centre in Human Design is associated with emotions, feelings, and sensitivity. On your chart, it can be found on the right-hand side of your chart, at the bottom. It is the triangle shape that points in towards the left. It plays a crucial role in how we experience and process emotions, interact with others, and make decisions based on our emotional state. This centre can be either defined or undefined, each presenting unique characteristics and challenges. The solar plexus centre is both a motor and an awareness centre concerned with emotional and social awareness.
Defined Solar Plexus Centre—Emotional
When the Solar Plexus Centre is defined in your Human Design chart (coloured in), it means that you have a consistent and reliable way of experiencing and processing emotions. Basically, you experience a range of emotions, and how these emotions are for you depends on which emotional wave or waves you have in your human design chart. This means that if this centre is defined, you're not picking up emotions from other people as you have your own emotions going on!
Characteristics of a Defined Solar Plexus:
Emotional Authority: Individuals with a defined Solar Plexus have emotional authority, meaning their decisions should be based on their emotional clarity over time. Immediate decisions can be impulsive and less reliable.
Emotional Waves: Defined Solar Plexus individuals experience emotional highs and lows as a natural rhythm of their being. These waves influence their moods and perspectives.
Self-Understanding: You have a deep understanding of your own emotions and can navigate your emotional landscape with greater awareness.
Challenges:
Emotional Intensity: The emotional waves can sometimes be intense, leading to periods of emotional turbulence.
Patience in decision-making: You need to wait for emotional clarity before making important decisions, which requires patience and self-discipline.
Undefined Solar Plexus Centre: Non-Emotional
An undefined Solar Plexus Centre is white and not connected to other centres through defined channels. This means there is no consistent way of processing emotions, leading to a different set of experiences. Basically, this means that if you are on your own, your emotions are stable, which is fantastic! But you are at the emotional mercy of other people; you will pick up on other people's emotions and amplify them. So if someone comes into your energy field who feels sad on a scale of 2 out of 10, as a non-emotional, you will pick up that sadness as a 5-6 out of 10 and wonder what is going on; you felt fine before this person came along!
Characteristics of an Undefined Solar Plexus:
Emotional Amplification: Individuals with an undefined Solar Plexus tend to amplify and reflect the emotions of those around them. They can feel emotions more intensely than those who are defined, but these emotions are not their own.
Empathy: They are highly empathetic and can easily tune into the emotional states of others, making them sensitive and compassionate.
Clarity in Calm: They make the best decisions when they are in a calm and non-emotional state; always follow their authority when making decisions.
Challenges:
Emotional Confusion: It can be challenging to distinguish between their own emotions and those they absorb from others, leading to potential confusion and overwhelm. This is part of the deconditioning process, learning that often what you feel is something you are picking up from someone else; it's not yours. Learning not to personalise these feelings—think you've done something wrong or think it's because of you—is key.
Avoiding Emotional Avoidance: They might develop a tendency to avoid emotional confrontations or environments to escape the intensity of amplified emotions.
The Four Emotional Waves
For those with a defined Solar Plexus, emotional waves are a natural part of their experience. There are four distinct types of emotional waves in human design:
Tribal Wave (Channel 37-40 and 19-49): This wave is related to the tribe or community and focusses on support, community, and familial bonds. This wave moves in a gradual buildup of emotional tension until there is an emotional outburst, and then it resets itself to do it all over again! Physical touch and sensitivity are important here; a hug or some kind of physical touch can help balance the wave.
Individual Wave (Channels 39-55, 12-22): This wave is deeply personal and focused on the individual's emotional experiences and creativity. It moves along on an even keel most of the time with shorter up-and-down emotional'spikes'. Knowing when to be alone with creative pursuits is key.
Abstract Wave (Channels 36-35, 41-30): The collective wave is associated with experiences and the broader community. It moves in a pattern of anticipation and expectation, followed by emotional highs and lows based on experiences and outcomes. When an expectation isn't met, the emotions crash. Learning to enter into a situation for the experience and lessening the expectation of the outcome will help.
Subtle Wave (Channel 59-6): This emotional wave feels quite stable, so if you do have this wave, you may be surprised to hear you are 'emotional'. This wave often takes another person to bring it out!
Navigating the emotional waves
For defined Solar Plexus individuals:
Embrace the Waves: Accept that emotional highs and lows are natural. Allow yourself to feel the full range of emotions without judgement.
Practice patience: Wait for emotional clarity before making significant decisions. Give yourself time to ride the wave and reach a balanced state.
Communicate Needs: Share your emotional process with those close to you. Let them know you need time to process emotions and reach clarity.
For Undefined Solar Plexus Individuals:
Set Boundaries: Protect your emotional well-being by setting boundaries or protecting your energy with emotionally intense people or situations.
Develop Emotional Awareness: Practice identifying which emotions are yours and which are absorbed from others. Regularly clear your emotional field through practices like meditation, energy cleansing, grounding, or spending time alone.
Seek Calm Environments: Make decisions in calm and non-emotional environments to ensure clarity and authenticity.
Conclusion
Understanding the Solar Plexus Centre in Human Design, whether defined or undefined, and the nature of the four emotional waves, can significantly enhance your self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Embracing your unique emotional process allows for more authentic and fulfilling interactions with yourself and others. Whether you navigate the intense highs and lows of a defined Solar Plexus or the amplified empathy of an undefined one, recognising and honouring your emotional landscape is key to living in harmony with your true self.
